Liberia: Report - Speaker Tyler's Sister Contracts Ebola - Rejected At ELWA Two, but Later Admitted

Monrovia — A sister of House Speaker J. Alex Tyler has reportedly contracted the deadly Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).
According to cogent report obtained by the Heritage at the weekend, Speaker Tyler's sister (name withheld) is currently seeking treatment at the ELWA 2 Hospital where she was admitted after contracting the killer disease.
The ailing House's Speaker sister, the report obtained from officialdom divulged, was earlier rejected admission at the hospital, but was later accepted after an influential lawmaker, who begged not to be named, pleaded with authorities at the hospital to admit her for treatment, a plea the hospital authorities yielded.
It is not clear why authorities at the hospital earlier rejected the ailing sister of Speaker Tyler for treatment. But this happened when health workers are reportedly staging go-slow actions, something that is said to be undermining the ongoing fight against the deadly Ebola virus.
It can be recalled that before the Ebola outbreak in March, health workers had on numerous occasions staged go-slow actions for reasons ranging from salary increment, reinstatement of their dismissed colleagues and hazard allowances. The government had promised to improve the working conditions of health workers as part of efforts to contain the spread of the Ebola virus, but the promise is yet to be fulfilled.
More than 2000 Liberians have died from the virus in Liberia since the outbreak of the deadly disease in March 2014, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The disease infects humans through close contact with infected animals, including chimpanzees, fruit bats and forest antelope.
It then spreads between humans by direct contact with infected blood, bodily fluids or organs, or indirectly through contact with contaminated environments.
Symptoms of the Ebola virus disease (EVD) include: high fever, bleeding and central nervous system damage. It be spread by body fluids, such as blood and saliva
Fatality rate can reach 90% - but current outbreak has mortality rate of about 55%.
Incubation period is two to 21 days.
There is no proven vaccine or cure.
Supportive care such as rehydrating patients who have diarrhoea and vomiting can help recovery Fruit bats, a delicacy for some West Africans, are considered to be virus's natural host.
