Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that
the government of Governor Rotimi Amaechi is a total failure, saying
the construction of the billion-naira monorail is of no economic value
to the people of the state.
Wike said the monorail is not the priority of Rivers indigenes, who have been denied the best of democracy dividends despite the billions of money accrued to the state from the federation account.
The minister made the allegation when the people of Rumuemue kingdom in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state visited him in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital on Sunday.
He condemned what he termed the ‘insistent’ attack on President Goodluck Jonathan by Amaechi, noting that Rivers people are known to give respect to their elders and chiefs.
Wike lamented the closure of the state judiciary and the state House of Assembly for such a long time by the Amaechi government, thereby denying the people access to the court and proper representation in the state Assembly.
“This government has shut down the judiciary so that the common people cannot have access to the court to get their cases attended to. The House of Assembly is now located right in Government House while the complex is also shut.
“This is why we have to work hard so that in February, PDP can take over power from this government and this can only be done when you participate in the permanent voters’ card registration.
“No reasonable man will abuse his elders or chiefs. This government said that President Jonathan hates Rivers people. Can you hate yourself? The President is a very humbled man; that is why he has remained focused to achieve all that he has achieved even in the face of the challenges”, Wike said.
Earlier, leaders of Rumuemue kingdom called on the minister not to hesitate to pick up forms for the governorship election next year, adding that he would be given overwhelming support by the people of the area.
